Presentation 1

Best Practice Programs for Improving Sportsfield Durability. Controlling the things, we can.

Michael Bradbery Syngenta Territory Manager for NSW ACT will present some proactive programs and products utilised by councils across Australia to improve sportsfield durability and find efficiencies in turf and landscape maintenance through new technology.

Presentation 2

Russell Fensom from C Ex Stadium and Coffs Harbour council will present on an array of management considerations dealing with C Ex Stadium upgrading and preparing for events including British Irish Lions Rugby, Sheffield Shield, Big Bash and Women's International Cricket, NRL and City Country Rugby League, A League and World Cup Soccer Qualifiers, Nab Cup AFL and World, Australian and State Austag and Touch football titles annually.

Russell will discuss the various management challenges of the range of turf varieties and soils under his care including the impacts of using effluent water, warm season and rye oversown grounds, renovation practices and managing player and community expectations.

Presentation 3

Spray Operator Masterclass for Those Applying or Responsible for Pesticides in Turf Management.

  • Applying turf products efficiently to maximise results and minimise waste or damage.
  • How pesticides work and where they need to be placed to be effective.
  • Product modes of action.
  • Selecting the correct nozzles, pressure and water volumes.
  • Calibration of spraying equipment for safety and efficiency.

Russell Fensom

Russell Fensom has worked in the Turf Management industry for over 40 years. He has experience in golf, bowls, turf production and for the last 28 years Sportsfield Maintenance.

In his role as Team Leader of Coffs Harbour Councils Turf Management Services he is responsible for the maintenance of Sports Turf Facilities for a variety of sports. Some of those at the elite levels including the British Irish Lions Rugby, Sheffield Shield, Big Bash and Women's International Cricket, NRL and City Country Rugby League, A League and World Cup Soccer Qualifiers, Nab Cup AFL and World, Australian and State Austag and Touch football titles annually.

More recent challenges have been the upgrade to the C Ex Stadium facilities with the need to maintain existing and new turf surfaces during the process. Both Tiff Tuff and Synthetic surfaces will be utilised for Soccer.

Russell manages a variety of Turf species, soil types and usage challenges with the added complications of Effluent water.

Russell has Certificate 3 and Diploma in Turf Management.


Michael Bradbery NSW/ACT Territory Manager Syngenta

Michael has been with Syngenta Professional Solutions since October 2018 where he is responsible for Turf and Landscape Products in NSW and ACT.

Michael has 37 years of experience in Sports Turf maintenance and construction in NSW.

He more recently worked with Turfgrass Scientific during the specification and construction supervision of the Kensington track at Royal Randwick. Prior to this he was Course Superintendent at Manly Golf Club for 19 years which included the complete re-development of the golf course.

Michael has a Master of Agriculture (Turf Management) from the University of Sydney.

His responsibilities are to work closely with Turf Managers throughout NSW and the ACT to develop programs and solutions in Turf and Landscape situations.
